Last year, some 9 million tourists visited Australia. Despite being the capital of the Sunshine State, Brisbane is commonly passed over for its more glamorous sister. Perhaps Brisbane might not be as swanky as Sydney, but its charm lies in its urban tranquillity. Boasting some of the coolest spots Down Under, here are some spots in Brisbane to slow down and savour the moment.

South Bank

South Bank, lovingly known as “Brisbane’s favourite backyard” remains a mainstay of Brisbane’s coast. Spanning 17 hectares of parklands, South Bank is a one-stop destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment—perfect for couples and families. Must-sees include Queensland’s own Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), the Wheel of Brisbane, Soleil Pool Bar, and weekend instalments of the Collective Markets.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a mere 15-minute drive from Brisbane City. However, if you have the time, opt for the scenic route aboard the cruise ship that takes you down Brisbane’s waterfront, with live commentary to boot. Don’t be taken aback if a komodo dragon stumbles into the café while you’re having your meal; these creatures are allowed to roam free around the Sanctuary. Make sure you also check out the kangaroos, snakes, and other Australian wildlife.
