Wintastar Shanghai, a multi-billion renminbi project, is jointly invested and developed by Wintastar Holdings which is a subsidiary of KOP Limited together with Shanghai Lujiazui Development Company Limited and Shanghai Harbour City Development Co. This integrated mega-complex which will feature the world’s biggest alpine-themed indoor ski resort with winter sports facilities, a Viking-themed water park and four themed hotels under KOP’s Montigo Resorts banner, is on track for completion in 2022. Topping out has been completed for the Montigo Residences and its multi-purpose hall. This is the first phase of the development, and interior furnishing is currently in progress.

Strategically located in Lingang of Shanghai’s Pudong district, Wintastar Shanghai is slated to become the pre-eminent tourism icon of the city. In fact, the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone recently incorporated the Lingang New Area, which will be expanded into a “special economic functional zone with strong international market appeal and competitiveness”. This announcement made in August 2019 is expected to raise the land and market value of Wintastar in Shanghai. Wintastar Shanghai’s multiplicity of sports, leisure, hospitality, entertainment and tourism taps on new consumer trends in China as well as global travellers and promises to deliver a truly immersive experience for all.

Ong Chih Ching, Executive Chairman and Executive Director of KOP Limited, said: “I am pleased that the development of Wintastar Shanghai is progressing on schedule. This mega project is the first of its kind to be undertaken by KOP. It’s also timely, with Beijing Winter Olympics happening in 2022 and Lingang New Area now designated as part of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone. Our themed ski & water parks and hotels will offer unique experiences. I am confident that it will appeal to both local and overseas visitors. In time to come, hopefully, this will be a must-see attraction in Shanghai.”

Indoor Ski Resort

Wintastar Shanghai’s highlight is its alpine-themed 90,000 sqm indoor ski resort with winter sports facilities, which also features the world’s first hotel ski-in-ski-out access and après-ski activities for both skiers and non-skiers. Professional skiers, amateurs, trainers, trainees, adults and children can expect a richly-themed snow and ski experience from three ski slopes of varying gradients, including a ski run of Olympics competitive grade. There will also be more than 20 snow play attractions.

Water Park

Located next to the ski slopes is the Wintastar’s water park with an Icelandic-Nordic viking theme. The water park promises thrill-seekers and families a multitude of twists, inversions, and record-setting waterslides. Spanning over two levels, the 20,000 sq m water park will offer both indoor and outdoor experiences and will be opened throughout the year. The water theme park will utilise innovative energy solutions to offer varied hot springs and spa experiences from around the world. A beach club, an infinity pool, and an opening from a Viking Ship will allow water park visitors a sneak peek into the icy cold world of the Ski Park next door, and a lazy river that connects both levels will transport patrons around with visual and multi-sensory surprises.

Montigo Resorts

KOP Limited’s luxury hospitality brand, international award-winning Montigo Resorts which currently operates in Batam and Bali in Indonesia, will also mark its entry into China via Wintastar Shanghai. It will offer over 920 room keys in four themed hotels: Montigo Luxe, Montigo Hotels, Montigo Residences and Montigo Ice, designed to create different accommodation experiences for everyone: from families, thrill seekers to the jet-setters. The 5-star Montigo Luxe includes rooms with ski-in ski-out facilities that give skiers added slope access and convenience, while the 16-room Montigo Ice, Shanghai’s first ice hotel, will feature ice carvings all-year round. Alpine-themed décor, experiential elements and the use of smart technologies will be central to the design of the Wintastar stay experience.

Retail and F&B

Wintastar’s integrated concept comes amidst a shift in consumerism towards unique experiences and away from material goods, as well as an increasing reliance on smartphones and technology. Apart from the skiing facilities, water theme park and four themed hotels, this integrated mega complex will cover 20,000 sq m of retail and F&B, and provide venues for shows, exhibitions, and events.

When completed, Wintastar Shanghai will add more glitter to China’s biggest and richest city.
