Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster has joined forces with Japanese jewellery label AMBUSH to create sunglasses inspired by both brands’ energy and identity.

‘Zip Tie’ is a clear coloured full-acetate frame, of a sports goggle silhouette. The prominent metal cable tie details, located at the centre front and on both sides of the frame, add contrast to the clear, light feeling base of the sunglasses.

Metal pipes at the tip of the temple give these sunglasses a bold touch accentuating the unapologetic attitude of this collaboration.

Yoon, the creative director of AMBUSH, says: “The AW19 collection is inspired by David Bowie’s movie The Man Who Fell to Earth, being on the move, on a journey. I wanted to create sunglasses to compliment this mood but in a 2019 way. When you put them on, you feel different and you feel out of space.”

The Gentle Monster x AMBUSH sunglasses will be available exclusively from 7 July onwards at AMBUSH WORKSHOP in Shibuya, Tokyo and a special pop-up event at Gentle Monster’s project space ‘BAT’ in Sinsa, Seoul.

From 12 to 14 July, the pop-up event in Seoul includes a special space designed exclusively for this collaboration. The kinetic installation ‘Discovery’ symbolises the uncovering of the synergy between two brands during the collaboration process. The special limited-edition T-shirts designed by AMBUSH are complementary to the sunglasses, and can be colour coordinated or mixed up for different vibes.

It will also be available from 11 July onwards on the official Gentle Monster online store and the official AMBUSH online store.
